The Otago Recreational 4WD Group (OR4G) was established by a group of 4WD enthusiasts in January 2004 to provide an environment for family members of all ages to take part in organised trips into the scenic back country areas that many people often never get to go to or see.
We have good working relationships with many landowners and the Department of Conservation, and continue to work alongside other 4WD clubs locally and nationally through our membership of the New Zealand Four Wheel Drive Association (NZFWDA, http://www.nzfwda.org.nz).
OR4G does not organise competitive events and enjoying OR4G activities does not require the use of highly modified or specialist off road vehicles. We promote the safe use of ordinary family type 4WD vehicles, some of which are close to factory standard. Many have had some modification work done to them in order to provide better ability off road.
The club has a relationship with the Southern District Health Board and other health facilities supporting these organisations when there are adverse weather conditions that require the skills and vehicles of OR4G members to transport staff.
